Aloha kākou,
The 3rd floor of the library is slated for a complete renovation starting in December 2024. The project includes a new roof, electrical, plumbing, telecom work, offices, group study rooms, a Hawaiʻi-Pacific collection room, and archival storage. The anticipated completion date is March 2026. The project is currently in the bidding phase, with the contract award expected by May 2024.
The timeline for closing the collection and vacating spaces is still to be determined. I expect we will need to shut down the floor by the early to mid-fall 2024 semester, but that is only my guesstimate at this early date. During the closure, library services will be limited to the 2nd floor. Most of the print collection will go into storage and will not be accessible until the end of the project. Upstairs study spaces will be closed, and most library staff will be relocated to the portables for the project's duration. In summer 2025, the 2nd floor will be closed for two months so it can be retrofitted with fire sprinklers.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
Mahalo,
wayde.
