Print books are incredibly valuable. People have recorded knowledge in print for thousands of years before the internet. Most human wisdom is in print format and has yet to been digitized! Leeward Library acquires a broad range of valuable physical periodicals, books, videos, and more to support academic programs and course offerings. Popular print and video collections are briefly described here.
Our main collection of circulating books (books that you can borrow) includes over 60,000 items selected by librarians to support the academic programs at Leeward CC. Books in this collection can be borrowed for up to 28 days.
This special collection includes books and journals about Hawai'i and the Pacific region. Most items in this collection may be borrowed for up to 14 days. Located on the 2nd floor in the Kapunawai Room (Hawaiian-Pacific Resource Room) and the 3rd floor.
The library subscribes to a wide variety of printed periodical titles. Periodicals include newspapers, magazines, and journals. You will find recent issues of magazines such as Time, Newsweek, PC Magazine, Motor Trend and Honolulu on the Current Periodicals Display shelf on the 3rd floor.
The library also subscribes to the daily Honolulu Star-Advertiser, USA Today, and Financial Times newspapers and the weekly Pacific Business News.
This collection includes books that you might consult when starting your research project. You will find encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, and atlases here. Other resources include directories, state and federal laws, literary and biographical sources, and statistical sources.
This collection includes textbooks and other reading materials placed by instructors for use by their students. Ask for reserve items at the Circulation Desk by course and instructor name. Some instructors place a copy of their textbook on reserve in this collection. Most reserve items are Library Use Only.
English as Second Language (ESL) collection includes graded readers for non-native speakers of English. Can be borrowed by students in Leeward CC ESL programs. Located near the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor.
